SATMASTER PRO - README.TXT
WHAT'S NEW
----------
Mk6.5
1) Added "Wheelmouse" scrolling.
2) Very minor improvements to system noise calculation.
3) Removed antenna mispoint loss from path loss total. Downlink mispoint is now added to G/T (no net change to budget).
4) Stripped out bloatware text editor and associated menu/toolbar clutter (this was basically a duplication of "Notepad" function).
5) Improvements to execution speed.
6) Minor improvements to printing.
Mk6.4f
1) Added (1 + Roll Off Factor) field to Downlink digital link budgets (*.dnd)
2) Renamed "Zaire.twn" to "Dem. Rep. of Congo"
Mk6.4e
1) Fixed bug in Leo module where amplifier power capability was locked to MIN even if a value was entered.
2) Corrected minor spelling mistakes in resources.
Mk6.4d
Reversed the tropospheric scintillation "bug fix" of Mk6.4c. (MK6.4b and earlier were correct!)
Mk6.4c (very short lived)
1) Fixed a bug with scintillation calculation. This effect was overestimated at low elevations.
2) Fixed crash when running on "Virtual PC on a MAC".
3) Amended some errors in the help file.
Mk6.4b
A minor release addressing an array overrun, memory leaks and minor text errors.
Mk6.4a
1) Bug fix to "Table|Satellite > Horizon (2 Sites)" module. Some satellites were missed from the listing (fixed).
2) Distribution package is built with a new installer (the previous package failed to install on certain computers).
Mk6.4
1) Added sun outage batch file system for single site and multiple satellites.
2) Added quick sun outage module for single receive site for all 'visible' satellites (no batch file needed).
3) Bug fix, more accurate equation used for power spectral density calculations.
4) Installer now has option to backup replaced files of earlier installed versions (if any).
Mk6.3a
1) Added multiple file selection for File | Open.
2) Added Hide/Show Tool bar. In certain cases the toolbar could be lost in previous versions.
3) Added the facility to zero atmospheric absorption and/or tropospheric scintillation results via setup.
4) Decrease minimum frequency validation to 0.1GHz to include UHF bands.
5) Fixed a problem with the AUTO downlink C/IM estimator. This could be overly pessimistic in link budgets with high uplink rain attenuation.
6) Fixed calculation of occupied bandwith with non-geo regenerative link budgets when using spread spectrum.
Mk6.2
1) Added facility to output all reports, link budgets and tables in HTML table format (useful for emailing results or direct uploading to web sites).
2) Added "Power Equivalent Bandwidth" usage calculation to digital link budgets (requested by feedback).
2) Bug fixed where interference totals were incorrectly reported for rain up when ALC was used.
3) Corrected error when selecting site button for FM up-down link budgets.
4) Corrected error were RS Code was displayed twice in FM TV downlink budgets.
Mk6.1
1) Added option to display solar outage times in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
2) Added downlink optimization options (antenna size or availability) to the "Digital Up-Down Link Budget" (*.upd) module. These options only appear under the downlink tab where the number of transponder carriers are entered manually. This provides identical operation as the former "Broadcast Service Link Budget (*.brd files) within a unified module.
3) Unused or irrelevant options are hidden from link budget input forms depending on input parameter combinations.
4) Extended input validation ranges for link budget modules as a result of user feedback.
5) Antenna efficiencies/gains now swapped when using "Link" reversal button (6.1a)
6) Added wind loading/ballast calculations (6.1a)
Mk6.0
1) Updated to ITU-R/DAH rain model (ITU-R P.618-6)
2) Added radio button selection of rain models
3) Added table look up of Crane" rain-climatic zones.
4) Added ALC input to link budgets.(use only for single carrier per transponder).
5) Added an extra "HPA power capability" input field to up-down link budgets so that:
a) MIN may be entered to iterate the budget for minimum uplink power.
b) A fixed HPA power may be specified.
c) MAX may be entered to examine excess margins with single carrier links.
6) Old "Broadcast Digital" link budgets (*.brd files) can now be read and saved save as *.upd files.
7) Added batch processing of solar outages for multiple sites (paste output to MS Excel or similar).
8) Added search for common satellites 'visible' between two earth stations.
9) Added option to fix the number of carriers per transponder (if known in advance).
10) Added "setup" option to set a custom data directory.
11) Updated ITU-R atmospheric absorption model
12) Updated annual vapour density map.
13) Added regenerative transponder link budgets for geo-satellites
14) Added provision for snapshot link budgets for some non-geo-satellites (bent pipe and regenerative).
15) Updated ITU atmospheric radio refraction model.
16) Added option for rain up AND rain down link budget calculations.
17) Many minor improvements not worthy of listing.
Items 13 and 14 may be refined in later 6.x version. Your feedback on this is most welcome.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
---------------------------
MAGNETIC VARIATION
Please ensure the date of your system clock is correct, so current magnetic variation is correctly calculated. It should be noted that the best possible accuracy, using any global model, is + or - 0.25 degrees.
OPERATIONAL CHANGES FROM Mk5.4 ONWARDS
The isolated downlink module, which saves *.dnd type files, has been modified to accept a symbol rate input rather than the older 'information rate' and 'overhead' input field combination. Please update this field manually because the loaded file value will still be information rate not symbol rate!
OPERATIONAL CHANGES FROM Mk5.2 ONWARDS
The file extensions for certain files have changed. In 32 bit versions, "town" files are now "twn" and "dupc" are now "brd". In old 16 bit versions "dat" files are now "twn" and "upc" are now "brd". You will need to rename any old data files to the new file extensions to read them.
Digital Link Budget Calculators
Full up-down digital link budget calculators with input provision for uplink power control (UPC), ALC, various interferences and multiple carriers. Finds HPA size, uplink power requirements, bandwidth and power usage per carrier. Calculates atmospheric losses and rain fade margins for any desired availability on uplink and downlink. Handles BPSK, QPSK, M-PSK or M-QAM with any FEC code rate. Determines power or bandwidth limited modes and calculates the power equivalent bandwidth, if appropriate. Provision for RS codes or 'Turbo' modems. Option for rain up AND rain down scenarios where uplink and downlink are from/to the same city.
Digital link budgets for Satellite TV, SNG, radio and data.
Satmaster Pro (included) can also be used for FM link budgets.
